Goals

This initiative aims to preserve and disseminate a diverse range of sustainable practices, ancestral knowledge and technologies through workshops, immersive experiences and seminars.

Topics include: ancient methods for food preservation, indigenous knowledge for the conservation of water bodies, sustainable practices for food production, permaculture and bioconstruction using local resources.

Past workshops

Introduction to plant identification, including unconventional edible and medicinal plant identification (aka PANCs from the Portuguese language acronyms ‘Plantas Alimentícias Não Convencionais’).

This workshop took place on the 10th December 2022. In this workshop, 22 participants attended. 

The workshop began with André teaching us the basics of botanic needed to identify plants. Lucas shared his expertise on agroecology and how many of the key plants in agroforestry are also PANCs. Regina then walked us through to a variety of PANCs that can be eaten or used as medicinal treatments for everyday ailments.  

Meet the experts behind the workshop:

André Caretta

Botanist, agroecological gardener and environmental educator.

He loves to identify plants and insects, understand their behaviour throughout the four seasons, and shares all his knowledge in his Instagram account @jardim.de.afeto.

Regina Fukuhara

PANCs specialist, aquarellist and permaculturalist. Regina has been disseminating her PANCs knowledge for the last 7 years through workshops. She has done a PANCs course with Valdely Kinupp in 2017 in the Tibá Rio (Institute of Intuitive Technology and Bio-architecture), has done a course in agroforestry with Gilberto Machel, a course in permaculture at the Casa da Cidade in São Paulo and has collaborated with AutonomiaZN, Fazendinhando, Ato Verde e Prato Verde Sustentável – Brazilian collective groups aiming to increase the awareness of sustainable food consumption in a range of locations, including vulnerable territories. She also looks after a vegetable garden at the Guarani bilingual school at the indigenous tribe Tekoa Ytu/Jaraguá as a volunteer. 

Lucas Ciola

Founder of the EPARREH group aiming to teach agroecological practices, environmental education, and sustainable sewage innovations in schools since 2004, Lucas has also collaborated in the birth of collective groups such as Divesp, PermaSampa, MUDA and PermaPerifa. Since 2006, he works as an Agroecology specialist in rural areas, indigenous tribes, and collective agricultural units known as Reforma Agrária. He has a background in Linguistics, specialised in indigenous languages, and creates teaching materials and books for indigenous schools.
